Feathers For Future
Wildlife Needs You: Value Our Vultures
Vulture Feather Donation
The Feathers For Future project gives everyone the chance to protect endangered vultures while becoming part of a unique eco-art initiative in South Africa. Artists Devon and Kayleigh have created a welded vulture sculpture from recycled tin cans. This artwork will be displayed at the Mzimkulu Vulture Hide in Underberg and will continue to grow as new feathers are sponsored.
Why Vultures Need Us
Vultures in South Africa face serious threats. Poisoning, habitat loss, and collisions with power lines are pushing many species to the edge of extinction. These birds are nature’s clean-up crew, yet their populations are falling fast. Conservation projects urgently need funding to monitor vultures, protect nests, and maintain safe feeding sites.
How Feather for future Sponsorship Works
When you sponsor a feather, your name or your school’s name is cut into vinyl and placed on the sculpture. Feathers are available in Gold, Silver, Bronze, Black, and White, starting at just R50.
- Gold Feathers (R200): Include sponsorship of a real vulture, with email updates about its movements twice a year.
- Other Feathers (R50–R150): Added to the sculpture as a lasting symbol of support.
Each feather for Feathers For Future, is handmade from recycled tin cans, making this project not only a tribute to vultures but also a celebration of sustainability.

Why does this matter
This partnership is about more than products. It is about values:
- Education with impact: Inspiring children to see vultures and rhinos as worth protecting.
- Conservation with transparency: Ensuring funds reach Wildlife ACT, not just retailers.
- Community with creativity: Using art and local products to make conservation personal and visible.
When you purchase through Local is Lekker ZA or sponsor a feather, you are protecting vultures, funding Wildlife ACT’s emergency responses, and inspiring the next generation of conservationists.
Vultures: Nature’s Silent Guardians
Vultures are more than scavengers. By circling above carcasses, they even help anti-poaching patrols detect illegal activity, making them unexpected allies in the fight against wildlife crime.
Although not glamorous, these birds are essential for ecosystems and public health. Their disappearance would be a tragedy for biodiversity—and a danger to people and wildlife alike.

Local Partnerships That Matter
South Africa’s biodiversity is world-famous, but it is under threat. Species like vultures, rhinos, and wild dogs need more than just conservation experts. They need communities, businesses, and families to act.
That is where Local is Lekker ZA and Wildkidsbooksa come in.
- Local is Lekker ZA curates locally made, eco-conscious products from gifts to books that support South African artisans while championing sustainability. A percentage of sales from Wildlife ACT conservation products and Wildkidsbooksa educational books goes directly to conservation projects.
- Wildkidsbooksa, founded by ecology specialist Kayleigh, creates illustrated wildlife stories and educational tools that inspire children to love and protect nature.
Together, they are turning everyday shopping into a force for conservation education and impact. Feathers For Future

Why Awareness and Action Are Urgent
Seven of South Africa’s nine vulture species are now threatened. Without urgent action, these silent guardians could vanish, taking with them vital ecosystem services and protections for human health.
At the same time, rhinos and other species face growing pressures from poaching and habitat loss. Conservation cannot survive without awareness, education, and sustainable funding.
That is why Feathers For Future exists, where art, education, and community come together to protect the wild.
