Artisan Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome! We are thrilled that you are considering joining the Local is Lekker ZA family.
E-commerce is evolving, and so are we. We have completely pivoted to a high-speed Fulfillment Agency Model to give local artisans the ultimate advantage. Here is everything you need to know about how we are bridging the gap between “I want it” and “I have it,” and how we partner with you to grow your brand.
Why the shift to a 100% digital-first fulfillment model?
We have spent years listening to what modern shoppers truly want. The verdict? They absolutely adore local craftsmanship, but they struggle with long waiting times. In an era of instant delivery, we realized we needed to evolve to capture the massive “I need a gift right now” market.
To ensure our business and yours succeeds and scales, we are moving away from traditional physical storefronts. By focusing all our energy on a premium, digital-first fulfillment center, we guarantee that when a customer buys your product, we ship it immediately. No manufacturing delays. No backorders. Just happy customers who come back.
How does the “Curated Boutique” strategy work?
We are moving away from the crowded, overwhelming marketplace approach and stepping into a curated “Greatest Hits” boutique. We ask our artisans to laser-focus their listings on their absolute bestsellers and keep our warehouse sufficiently stocked with those specific items.
The Logic: We have found that it is far better to hold multiple units of your bestsellers than a single unit of dozens of different items. Selling hundreds of your top items creates significantly more profit and much less admin for you than trying to sell one unit of many different things.
How will you drive traffic to my products?
We are attacking this from two highly effective angles:
The Collective Marketing Fund: Your highly affordable R99 monthly subscription fee goes directly into a collective Marketing Fund. We use this to run targeted Google Ads that drive ready-to-buy shoppers straight to our site. This fee also covers your physical warehouse shelf space, so you never have to worry about overheads.
How does the logistics side actually work?
Think of us as your dedicated, hands-free logistics partner. You simply send your “Greatest Hits” stock to our facility. When an order comes in, we handle the storage, the premium packaging (boxes, tape, and all), and the immediate courier dispatch. You just keep your dedicated shelves topped up, step away from the packing tape, and focus entirely on creating!
What if my top-selling product comes in different sizes or colors?
To keep our warehouse moving at lightning speed, we keep inventory incredibly streamlined. Rather than using complex multi-option drop-down menus, we feature your most popular variations as their own dedicated listings. We highly recommend sending us only your best-selling designs, colors or sizes to maximize your product slots!
How do we keep my storefront fresh if I am only listing my bestsellers?
We don’t want your stock to gather dust! We actively monitor what sells and suggest what works and doesn’t.
Can I sell food, natural cosmetics, or homemade beauty products?
Absolutely, but with a strict commitment to quality! To ensure the customer receives a flawless product, all perishables, cosmetics, and food items must be shelf-stable for a minimum of 6 months at standard ambient temperatures.
The Melt Test: If your product is highly sensitive to standard South African weather (e.g., body butter that might melt in a warm courier van, or organic creams lacking preservatives that may spoil), it is not a fit for our current fast-dispatch environment.
Note: All food items require a valid Certificate of Acceptability (COA) to ensure shopper safety.
Who owns the inventory while it is in your warehouse?
You do! The supplier retains full ownership of their products right up until the moment a customer purchases them. Please note that while we are your dedicated platform and fulfillment partner, the artisan remains fully responsible for the manufacturing process, product safety, and any matters arising from the actual use of the product.
