The Journey
Born out of resilience and creativity during South Africa’s 2020 hard lockdown, Local is Lekker ZA began with Gift, Dumi, and Ernest as apprentice craftsmen.
Led by Charlene, director of Charlie G Designs, the vision of creating more than just a business took shape—it became a platform for empowering artisans and showcasing their incredible talents.
Charlene’s love for textiles, especially weaving, has been a cornerstone of this journey. But we wanted to do more than just weave. We wanted to be a voice for artisans, providing them with opportunities to build their brand through teamwork and collaborations.
Today, Local is Lekker ZA is a thriving store at Prison Break Market, where you can witness the artistry of our craftsmen and explore products that are as unique as the stories behind them.
From humble beginnings in a garage, we’ve grown into a celebrated brand in just two years. Our dedication to excellence has earned us the prestigious Mohair Mark, symbolizing our commitment to using only the finest mohair fibres.
