Can I sell my products on Local Is Lekker ZA?

Selling on Local is Lekker ZA is refreshing! You can sell your artisanal products on Local Is Lekker ZA if your products are made by hand and/or locally made. Click here to Register 

How can I be certain that my products meet the requirements? Send an email with a link to your products and a brief description to artisan@localislekkerza.co.za for us to review them.

We do have strict policies regarding locally made products. The Local Is Lekker ZA team will get in touch with the store owner for advice if any products do not adhere to our locally made requirements.

What are the guidelines for handmade local products made in Africa?

Handmade and locally made products from Africa offer unique alternatives to mass-produced items, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and individuality. These products are crafted by skilled artisans and small-scale craftsmen who possess specialized knowledge in their respective fields.

While precise parameters for handmade and locally made vary across businesses, we strive to support and celebrate the creativity of individuals and small teams who incorporate significant handmade interventions in their work. Our commitment lies in fostering inclusivity and recognizing the value of craftsmanship. How do I get started?

All you need to do is join our team here and create your own shop in under 5 minutes. No setup fee or monthly fee.

After you- the seller registers your business and verifies it. You can start uploading your products to your shop straight away.

How does selling work?

After our team has gone through each product listing carefully and approved it, your product will go live on our platform. Once your product is purchased by a customer, you will need to deliver that product to our distribution center. Our team will inspect, package and deliver the product/s to the customer within South Africa. 

Do I have to live in Africa to sell products?

Yes. All of our artisans, vendors and/or small businesses are required to live within African borders. This includes Madagascar.

What is Local Is Lekker ZA shop?

Local is Lekker Za is a local online marketplace where you can buy and sell local products made in Africa from South Africa. Anyone interested in selling with Local is Lekker Za can do so by opening a shop for free. This shop is always open (unless the artisan is away on vacation or temporarily shut down) and will feature all of your approved products. In addition, all of your products will appear in the relevant Local is Lekker Za categories, and search tool and will be promoted by the team.

How do I set up my shop and upload products?

To get started, just click on the icon that looks like a person at the top right-hand corner of the page, select ‘register’, select ‘Become a Vendor’ fill in the appropriate information, vetting process to take place, once the vetting has taken place we will approve or advise on why you have not been approved.

Once you’ve been approved, you’ll be sent an email stating “approved”. Go to your dashboard. Verify your account by selecting your profile and uploading the necessary documents. 

Once you are verified, go to the ‘your products’ tab and start loading. Include as much information on both your store home page and in your description. We have found the more information given to the buyer the easier it is to sell the products. We will be double-checking the products before they go live.

How do I set up my shop URL?

Once you are logged into your vendor profile on Local Is Lekker ZA, you can change your URL by clicking on “Store manager”, “Settings”, “Store”, “Store Name”. Here you will find the area for your Store URL, which is localislekkerza.co.za/African-artisan/[STORENAME]/

Can I use my brand name on Local Is Lekker ZA?

Yes. Absolutely. It is important for you as a small business owner to maintain your brand, so we strongly encourage that you use your brand name.

Your Local is Lekker Za store not only gets a name you select, but it also gets a unique URL (i.e. localislekkerza.co.za/African-artisan/YOURNAMEHERE), which you can use to promote your products.

All Local is Lekker Za shops do require a profile image and banner image of your choice, an informative description about you, your shop policies, and the story behind your products.

What are the image dimensions for the Shop Profile and Banner?

 

Once you are logged into your vendor profile on Local Is Lekker ZA, you can change your profile image by selecting ‘Store Manager’, ‘Settings’. Below are the Shop Profile and Banner image requirements. We have also provided suggestions as to what you could include in that image.

Store Banner
Size: 1650 x 350 px
Details: Only an image is required, no text is needed.

Mobile Banner
Size: 520 x 250 px
Details: Only an image is required, no text is needed.

This will be visible when someone views your store from their mobile

Shop logo
Size:  125 x 125 px
Details: This helps buyers get to know the seller that they are working with.

Can I sell the same products on my Local Is Lekker ZA shop as I do on my site, or other sites?

Yes, as long as you are able to manage your inventory accordingly. We do not require exclusivity to your products.

What information should I include on the product description page?
  • Product Title: A clear and descriptive title that accurately represents the product.
  • Product Description: Provide a detailed and engaging description of the product, highlighting its features, benefits, and unique selling points. Be sure to include information such as materials used, product dimensions, functionality, and any special features.
  • Good images: Use images that showcase the product from different angles. Images can greatly enhance the visual appeal and understanding of the product.
  • Shipping expectations: including the time required to create the product and the estimated shipping duration after purchase
  • Pricing and Availability: Clearly state the price of the product and its availability status. If there are any discounts, promotions, or limited-time offers, mention them as well.
  • Product Specifications: Provide specific details about the product, such as size, weight, color options, technical specifications, or any other relevant information that helps potential buyers understand the product better.
  • Care Instructions: If applicable, provide care instructions or maintenance tips for the product to ensure its longevity and proper usage.
  • Additional Information: Depending on the nature of the product, consider including any warranty details, certifications, safety information, or relevant usage guidelines.

Remember, providing ample information and crafting a compelling description increases the likelihood of potential buyers finding and adding your products to their cart.

Where is my Seller Dashboard?

You can access your Seller Dashboard by the following path: Login > My Account > Store Management > Manage My Orders.

Here you will be able to get a historical view of all of your sales, what products you have shipped already, etc.

How do I change my product photos and descriptions?

You can rearrange, delete, and upload additional photos for your products. Click on “store manager” and “your products”. Here you can view and edit all your current and previous product images. This will then be approved by Local Is Lekker ZA.

Why doesn't Local upload products for the Artisans?

At Local is Lekker Za, we have a dedicated and skilled team capable of handling various tasks for the site, bridging the gap between artisan and customer and managing our brick-and-mortar store.

However, our intention is to establish a streamlined connection between our platform and artisans. By implementing a set percentage instead of complex pricing structures between us and different Artisans, involving wholesale discounts, slight price variations, or quantity-based purchases, we aim to simplify the process.

By adopting this approach, we enable artisans to maintain autonomy over their own stock and have the flexibility to adjust prices as needed. It also allows us to focus on upskilling more individuals and providing support to more artisans. Furthermore, this approach grants us the opportunity to advertise and showcase a diverse range of artisans effectively.

Our objective is to create an environment where artisans can thrive and maintain control over their products while benefiting from our promotional efforts and platform. We believe this approach will foster growth, encourage individual success, and ultimately contribute to a vibrant and diverse artisan community.

I'm having problems uploading product images.

Please be sure that you are using the correct size images and ensure you are using an updated version of your browser. If you continue to experience issues, please email us at artisan@localislekkerza.co.za and someone from our support team will get in touch with you.

I offer variations of my product (i.e. size, color, etc.). Where can I include this information?

We want to make sure that your buyers are able to provide you with as much information as you need to fulfill an order. We do encourage Artisans to include as much information upfront as possible to speed up the sale.

 

After selecting the ‘add product’ tab, select the arrow on the right of the drop-down box with the ‘simple product’. Select ‘variable product’ in the dropdown. Scroll down and add attributes and different values.

 

For example, Attribute is Colour, values are blue | pink | red | etc… Select ‘draft’ button at the bottom right. Once saved, select the ‘variables’ tab and here you can upload your variations.

My products are one of a kind. How do I make sure buyers can’t see my sold products?

To ensure that some of your products aren’t viewed by buyers, you can “archive” current products or “delete” products. These options are both available when you log in to your account, click “Your Products”, and access either your “Draft Products” or “Active Products”.

Can I offer custom made products?

We encourage custom-made products, including as much information as possible in the description. How to be reached for any customisation features will go through Local Is Lekker ZA.

Please email us and advise what custom-made products you are able to offer, what information is required for pricing and we will work on adding this option to your “Dashboard” to ensure the order follows all measures.

For example, T-shirt designs. Offering customers an option to upload their own designs for t-shirt designs. or engraving. Cost per letter engraved.

Is there a limit to the number of products I can sell?

No limit. But you need to monitor your own stock. We do recommend that you upload enough products to satisfy your buyers. When uploading your products, you will also be able to select the variation and quantity of products you would like to sell (i.e. 1 product or 100 depending on your stock).

Every seller will have a different amount of product, but we want to help ensure that your products are being noticed by our buyers.

How do I re-list my products?

Make sure the autorenewal option is selected on your profile. If you’re still not sure, please feel free to email us

Do our stores offer seasonal messages?

Local Is Lekker ZA as a whole will close all orders from the first week of December to ensure a 100% success rate. All artisans will be contacted well in advance advising us on their status so that we ensure all align.

What should I include in my Shop Policies?
  • Shipping Policy: Outline the shipping methods available, estimated delivery times, and any associated costs. Specify which regions or countries you ship to and any restrictions or limitations that may apply.
  • Return and Refund Policy: Clearly state the conditions under which customers can request returns or refunds, including timeframes, acceptable reasons for returns, and any requirements for the condition of the returned items. Specify whether customers will receive a refund, store credit, or exchange.
  • Exchange Policy: If you offer exchanges for certain products, provide details on how customers can request an exchange, any conditions or limitations, and how shipping costs will be handled.

This is only visible to Local is Lekker ZA, if we feel things need to be adjusted to fit our policies, we will advise further.

What packages do you offer?

While we are currently developing our advertising packages, we will promote all our Artisan products through our various marketing channels & platforms in the interim. We will need Artisans to send us product content for social media posts & reels 

What are the fees involved?

We deduct 25% of the product price you have listed only once the product is sold. 

This gives you access to your own shop, to list your own products- How easy is that?

What are your product pricing limits?

Here at Local Is Lekker ZA we do not have a pricing limit.

How do I get paid?

Make sure your bank details are correct on your dashboard. 

Why do I need to insert my bank details?

In order for Local is Lekker ZA to pay the artisan once their product sells.

How do I manage my orders?

By accessing your “Dashboard” and clicking on “Orders”

How do I know if have had an order?

Along with an email alerting you of your most recent order, your seller dashboard will also show all your orders. Both the seller dashboard and this email will have all the necessary information you need to complete your order.

What do I do before the package is shipped?

Before the parcel is wrapped and shipped, the seller needs to take photos of the product and load it on portal, once the product is wrapped seller is required to take photos of all four sides of the package. This is for your own protection if the package is damaged in transit.

Where do I enter in courier details?

Shipping timeframes and any other necessary information would need to be made clear to us under “settings”, “store policies” and “Your Shipping Terms & Conditions”

How am I able to close my store/account?

When you are logged into Local Is Lekker ZA or send us an email requesting this.

What will happen if I cancel my store/account?

You will immediately lose access to any features your plan offers at Local Is Lekker ZA.

How do I change my payment details on my shop?

Access your “Dashboard” click on “Settings”, “Payment” and edit details.

Local Is Lekker ZA does reserve the right to remove any products that are not quality African products made locally, by hand or if we receive complaints from the buyers.

If you are a seller and you spot something out of sort, please send us an email at artisan@localislekkerza.co.za with the username of the shop and the link and we’ll get on the case as soon as we can.

If you are a vendor and notice something odd, email us at artisan@localislekkerza.co.za with the shop URL, and we will investigate the topic immediately.
