Secret Onions -A Tapestry of Untold Women’s Stories by Jen Grobowski
Peel Back the Layers – Discover the Strength of Silent Narratives
Secret Onions is a collection of short stories about women who suffered trauma, but who were unable to tell their stories, for one reason or another. This is the author’s way of giving those women a voice and a way to heal the trauma that may have been carried in DNA for generations, finally breaking patterns that originated from untold stories.
The stories are written in the style of automatic writing (normally written with the non-dominant hand), allowing the words to flow without consciously planning the stories. The bare skeletons of the stories allow for the readers to weave their own imagination or perhaps their own stories into the loose weave of the stories.
Each story gives us a life concept to contemplate which will have a different meaning for each person who reads the stories. It is like a tapestry with a printed picture into which we well each weave our own unique different colours and threads. The layers of the onions need to be peeled back for healing to occur, shedding the cleansing tears with each layer…

“This is where the magic of the paradox lies waiting – waiting for the imagination, the memory, the memories to be pulled back viscerally to be acknowledged, accepted, and brought into the light for healing to occur.” Paula Hully
