The Role of Prayer in Farm & Family Life.

A short, sweet devotional from a farmer's wife and mum

Christian Wife & Mum

Matthew 11: 29 – 30 Take my yolk upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yolk is easy and My burden is light.

In Jesus’ day, taking the yolk of another meant coming under the person’s leadership and walking in that person’s footsteps. When believers take Jesus’ yolk, they place themselves under His Domain. Only then do His followers enjoy the day-to-day release from stress that God intended.

Growing up on a sugar cane farm and marrying my husband, who also farms sugar in South Africa, has provided me with a deep understanding of the many challenges that farmers face. From unpredictable weather and disease to security concerns, we have lived through some tough times. During periods of anarchy, there were nights when I stayed home with our children while the men guarded our farms. It was our unwavering faith and taking life one day at a time that sustained us. I truly believe our prayers have carried us through these difficult moments.

Living in the country is a privilege. Having our children at home with us while we work is an indescribable joy.

In these rapidly changing times, it’s essential to slow down, take a deep breath, and keep our focus on God first and family second. Always begin the day in prayer with your children and end it the same way. My mother instilled this practice in me, praying with my sister and me before school and at bedtime, always accompanied by stories and prayer.

With warmth, love and gratitude,

Kayleigh
